As expected, Becky Archibald's Mood Swing CD release concert tonight was incredible. While I love her solo piano work, I was happy to see her bring some other musicians and instruments into the mix. I didn't get a chance to shoot any footage of the actual performance as I was "shushed" by some lady behind me as I was getting out my camera. Becky said I should have shot anyway, but I didn't feel like causing a scene. I did get some very brief video after the concert, however. Below is Becky along with her daughter Delaney, David Bellman (clarinet), Richard Graef (French horn), Ingrid Fisher-Bellman (cello), and P.J. Yinger (trumpet).
Bellman, Graef and Bellman all play for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Yinger is actually Art Director for the Bob & Tom Show and performs with Polka Boy. All you filmmakers out there looking for an original score, I can certainly give Becky a glowing recommendation. Check her out at www.beckyarchibald.com.
I headed up the Starbucks on 96th and Allisonville this morning for the Karmic Courage Productions' casting call for FIRST THEY CAME FOR. It's a short film inspired by the poem of the same name by Reverend Martin Niemoller and is being made for Pangea Day. No, I wasn't there to audition, but I did get a chance to talk to director Kate Chaplin and actor Scott Ganyo before the actors went streaming in. Here's what they had to say about the film:
There was a great turnout at the IMAX theater last night for the premiere of Dan Hall's GHOST STORIES: WALKING WITH THE DEAD. The film is creepy - but I mean that in a good way. Parts of it sent chills up my spine. One of my favorite people in the film was Marilene Isaacs. She's an intuitive and healer that explored the haunted locations with Dan and made contact with the "other side." She's runs the Center of Peace and has appeared on numerous radio and TV programs. Here she is last night after the screening talking a little bit about her gift and how she got involved with the project:
In case you missed the premiere last night, you can catch it again at the IMAX tonight at 7:40. The film will also be screening at Cinema Grill, Georgetown Theatre, Lotus Petal Cinema in Nashville, and the Artcraft Theater in Franklin. Check those website for showtimes and ticket information.
It's easy to get you fill of scary movies this Halloween season in Indianapolis with the premiere of GHOST STORIES WALKING WITH THE DEAD at the IMAX theater tonight and Key Cinemas' late night screenings of both EVIL DEAD and EVIL DEAD 2. Here's the trailer for the first:
And the second:
Tickets are only $5 and they get you into BOTH movies. The first screens tonight at tomorrow at 10PM. The second screens tonight and tomorrow at 11:30PM. More at www.keycinemas.com.
Dan Hall's GHOST STORIES: WALKING WITH THE DEAD, a documentary in which the director explores haunted sites looking for spirit contact, will premiere tomorrow at the IMAX theater. Here's a clip from the film:
With Halloween just around the corner, it's the perfect time to catch this flick. More information can be found at www.ghoststoriesmovie.com.
Award-winning composer/pianist Becky Archibald will release her new CD, Mood Swing, in a concert held at the Indiana History Center Basile Theatre this upcoming Monday, October 29, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. Becky is an amazingly talented lady. I had the pleasure of working with her back in the day when she composed the score for COMING TO MY SENSES; this is sure to be a great show.
Special guests include Ingrid Fischer-Bellman, cello, and P.J. Yinger, jazz trumpet. Tickets, available at the door, are $15. $10 for students/seniors. For more information call 317-253-2824 or go to www.beckyarchibald.com.
RED HARVEST, directed by Indy resident Dylan Griffith, won Best Horror Short at the 2007 Terror Film Festival in Philadelphia this past weekend.
The film premiered earlier this year at the Indianapolis International Film Festival and has gone on to play at film festivals across the country, including Shockerfest in California. Here's Dylan talking about the film earlier this year at the premiere:
The film will be screening again this weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan as part of the Thriller!Chiller! film festival.
Ryan Gosling is an incredible actor. He's played a Jewish skinhead in THE BELIEVER, a poor man in love with a rich girl in THE NOTEBOOK, and a junior high teacher with a crack habit in HALF NELSON. Now he's back with another "love story." This one's not quite as sob-inducing as THE NOTEBOOK (I did not cry during that movie by the way, but i know many who have...now ask me about OLD YELLER or ET and that's a different story) but it's touching nonetheless.
It's playing as part of the Heartland Film Fest tonight at 9:35, tomorrow at 4:30 and on Thursday at 7 and 9:15. Check out www.heartlandfilmfest.org for locations.
After the awards show everyone was ready to loosen their bow ties, kick off their heels have a good time. Here's a brief recap of some of the festivities:
